Thank you to those who signed the petition supporting changes to the Lobbying Bill proposed by Lord Harries of Pentregarth.
Lord Harries presented the petition in the chamber of the House of Lords at the start of the Lobbying Bill Report Stage debate. He announced that 130 NGOs and over 160,000 had added their support to the petition.
The House of Lords made changes following the debate that were later rejected by the House of Commons, before the Bill passed into law.
The petition is now closed.
To Members of the House of Lords:
The Lobbying Bill would stop charities and campaigning groups from speaking out on some of the most important issues facing the country and the planet, even once recent Government changes to the Bill are taken into account.
It remains an unacceptable threat to democracy and freedom of speech.
We call on you to vote for Lord Harries’ amendments to the Bill.
